Choosing The Right Rim Width For Your Riding Style

No burps. No clogs. No midnight retaping. Just clean installs that hold air and stay sealed - first time.
We’ve all been there: late-night install, sealant everywhere, swearing at the tyre bead while wondering why this was supposed to be “better.”
Tubeless can be easy - but only when you get the key steps dialled. Here’s how to finally get it right.

START WITH THE RIGHT GEAR

Tubeless works best when your components are built to work together:
Quality rim tape (correct width - not “close enough”)
Proper high-flow valves
Tubeless-ready tyres with solid sidewalls
Decent sealant (not that 3-year-old bottle in the corner)

Gnarly Pro Tip: If you’re running our wheels - they come pre-taped and ready to go.

TAPE IT TIGHT (IF NEEDED)

Always clean the rim bed first - rubbing alcohol works great.
Center the tape and pull it tight as you apply.
Overlap ~10cm at the valve hole for full seal.
Smooth out bubbles as you go - heat from your hand helps.

VALVE INSTALL: DON’T OVERTHINK IT

Punch a clean hole through the tape with an awl or sharp pick.
Insert valve snugly; hand-tighten the nut.
If you’re running Gnarly High-Flow Valves → no airflow issues, no clogging.

WHY WE BUILD GNARLY TUBELESS GEAR THIS WAY:

We’ve spent years fixing every headache above. That’s why:
Our valves flow better
Our tape fits your rim perfectly
Our inserts work with low PSI
And our wheels are tubeless-ready out of the box
